If you could clone one element from another city you’ve visited — a building, a cultural institution, a common street food, etc. — and bring it back to your own hometown, what would it be?
The heat & humidity of Miami this time of the year. An inexhaustible supply of the Pacific Ocean’s salty, fragrant air wafting through every window of the house, and a once-a-month treat from Norway’s frequent Northern Lights shows.

Detroit may seem destitute to the rest of the world, but there is plenty of culture, diversity, office towers, and artsy, trendy, hip, and now to be had. Ann Arbor’s annual Art Festival, The DIA, the zoo, farmer’s markets are cropping up in almost every city around, including the one I live in, casinos, the Great Lakes, and so on.
There’s lots to do and see, so I wouldn’t want or need to have another big cities buildings plunked down near here. Although I wound’t mind seeing Victoria Falls (Africa) out my den wall window every time I pause my writing and gaze out at the backyard 😉
